You can also experiment with cotton sateen sheets- I buy them at TJMAXX, Marshalls or Ross. Check that they are 100% cotton, and look for about 250-300 thread count. Higher than that and they are both a PIA and very thin. You can usually open just the top of the packet to get a feel. Sateen is slipperier than regular weave to sew with- that's my only issue with it!

I use a lot of sateen, it dyes beautifully and lloks like crushed velvet (remember that!?) it sews a bit like a batik so be sure you have a very sharp needle.

I ran across some 100% cotton sateen at JoAnn's yesterday and was wondering how it was to FMQ with as a backing for a quilt?
If feels so soft. And it was on a red dot sale!! I didn't get it for two reasons 1) I didn't know what sizes my quilts were and 2) I wasn't sure if it can be used as a quilt backing and FMQ... any information would be great. |
