Quilting with a 9inch harp
 

I have a nine inch harp (Juki 2000) on a king frame. I want to quilt a queen sized quilt. I know I have to quilt about half & then turn it around, how do I do this. Is there a video, if so where would I find it.

I have a Juki on a Hinterberg stretch frame. I quilted by daughter's king-sized quilt using it. By the time I got to the end of the quilt, I only had about 4" of quilting space available. I did not have to turn it end to end to finish it. I did turn it sideways to do the side borders, though. HTH

I have a grace frame GMQ Pro and a Phaff 9" throat and I do not turn queen quilts around to finish quilting. The wood patterns that come for the frame are about 3" pattern and that is what I use.

Haven't had to do it yet either, but apparently you baste the rest of the quilt, turn it and attatch, then start from where you left off. Remember to turn the pattern around too.

You will only have to turn it if the quilting design you are using is more than 4" or you used a puffy batting. If you used a cotton batting and are just doodling all over it--you should be able to make it all the way to the end. I have never had to turn a quilt either. I would break down the designs I wanted to use so none were larger than 4" in a single pass. Break the design in half or needle down/roll/needle down/rollback.....It is a pain but working backwards from the center was too complicated for my brain--LOL.

I am using my 35 yr old Kenmore with a 7.5 harp. Using a warm and natural batting I can make it from one end to another on a 3 3/4" - 4 " pattern . So far so good!

Thanks everyone for your in-put. I'll be switching to warm & natural batting, for sure. Right now I'm using the last of my puffy batting. Hind sight tells me I should have used my puffy batting on lap quilts. So I guess I'll consider this one a learning curve. Going on vac., so I'll get to this as soon as we get home.
