I think I just found a new (to me) acronym that seems to fit me very well. It's "SABLE", as in Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy. Does it fit anyone else on here?
I look at all this stuff and sometimes it overwhelms me. |
Fits me also to a T!! :)
|
Funny! I would say it is a very fitting acronym for some quilters...stash builders.
|
That is so neat. Luckily, I can't say that it fits me yet, unless I die in the next year or so, but I am working hard on it. I was shopping this past week, and saw some material and had a hard time walking away from it, but know what I need to sew in the next year, and have to stay within my guidelines. Tough!!!

I can't wait to share this acronym with my quilt club.... I know some amazing stash accumulators!!!
I read a book call "Stash Envy", it's hillarious! There's one chapter where the husband comes into the authors stash room and exclaims, "You must have hundreds of dollars worth of fabric in here!" She comments to the readers, "I won't tell him if you won't!" |
ditto

Many of the people on this web site use initials for phrases they might as well be speaking Moon talk. I do not understand the need to presume that every one knows what they mean.

There are probably places on here that explain most of them but just to help you here are a few. It is just part of the sewing lingo. WIP- work in progress OBW - one block wonder QAYG quilt as you go UFO - un - finished object BSS - basic sewing supplies..(our guild uses this a lot when announcing a class. 'bring BSS') I am sure other folks can add some more. Hope this helps. |
Thank you for your help.Abbreviations and I just do not stick. My job demanded the use of many and I conquered them but there is always the possibility of many different meanings to come out of an intended abbreviation.I understand the elimination of a long phrase but many of us are not communicated with.

Pat, you are not alone. I feel dumb when it comes to the abbreviations... I just go with the flow. When texting my kids,(the best way to get a message to my children because they will actually respond to a text...), something like LOL (laugh out loud), JK (just kidding), Thx (thanks) or K (okay) they give me a bad time for trying to fit into the texting world.... So we can't win. I don't mind though, most of the time I just type EVERYTHING out (punctuation included)!
It took me forever to figure out that DH was dear hubby!!! LOL!!! |
Raising my hand ... yes that fits me too! However, I have been good at using fabrics from my stash lately rather than buying more.

I see the letters "ISO" in some subject lines,
what does that stand for? I'm a little sleep deprived, so maybe it's obvious to everyone else... Rose Hall |
Love it. So now I can call myself a SABLE, LOL.
|
i don't want to out live my assets in the bank but i do want to out live my fabric stash.

OK lady's .I am going to admit .to being 75 and i don"t text and as you can tell I never learned to type so these abbreviations are just one more new thing I do not understand and these occurrences are happening way too frequently. Oh well.
|
Oh, chuckles and minnehahas...ain't we all....yep, me too.

So funny!

Boy, oh boy!!! Does that fit me!!! I am constantly fighting against the "buy more material" demon. So far I've been good but boy is it tempting when I go into a fabric store. When I go to thrift stores, I try to find cheap but so far haven't found anything.
Right now I'm using my scraps & have my 13 yr GD making blocks that we can someday make into a quilt.    |
