hi!

this is a picnic blanket for a family that we see every year at the same music festival, made out of their t-shirts. sorryfor the poor quality of the photo. maybe in the daylight i'll try to get a better image....

how would you quilt it? what colour thread would you use?

i am genuinely stumped!

thanks for your help!

Beautiful picnic quilt. No idea about quilting always struggle on that area myself.

I Love the colorful sashing and the way you laid out the tees. Great job! "Stipple" girl, here. Keep it simple.

I would quilt it with straight line cross hatching using a walking foot and use a neutral thread color, maybe grey. I love that look.

Depends on your batting. I would SITD in your sashing first. Then try to outline in and around the design in the t-shirt then if there is too much background, I would use one of the background stencils like crosshatching to fill in the larger spaces. These quilts are very heavy so you want to make sure that the three layers of the quilt are secured.

If I had a long arm I would find a pantograph of music notes. If working on my sewing machine, I would SITD the sashing and quilt each block individually trying to avoid quilting over the printing.

If you are quilting it on your sewing machine grey thread and wavy lines of stitching would work well.

I was thinking wavy lines also and a neutral thread. Wavy lined would catch and not be the same in all the right places.

I would do a crosshatch in a neutral color, but would randomly vary the distance between quilting lines, anywhere from an inch, up to 3 or so.

Since the construction is boxy, I would go with an all over wavy design in a medium beige. I think a simple meander would work well.
