quilting bargello quilts
I have a 40 by 50 bargello quilt and have no idea how to quilt it. Any suggestions?

Which bargello pattern did you use?
You read my mind! I was just getting ready to ask this question. I am still putting together a bargello ... the pattern is Surf Song ... but mine will be a lap quilt size. I am already thinking of how to quilt this pattern. I don't want heavy quilting ... was thinking along the lines of long curvy lines for mine. |
I have seen them quilted with beautiful feathers that follow the design of the bargello

Most quilts I have seen quilted follow the movement of the pattern. I have quilted them corner to corner and in the peak, I stop in the center and then stitch back to the corner. You want to accent the movement of the pattern and NOT distract from the beauty of the piecing.

I stitch in the ditch. I don't hit every ditch, not even close to it, but about every 5 inches. Since I use a batting that allows 10 inches between stitching, I am very comfortable with that. I am one of the rare quilters who really prefers the piecing be the quilt and not the quilting. Thank goodness there is room for all of us.

Have you posted a picture of it? I may have missed it if so ... I'll look again.
ManiacQuilter 2, I agree. My thoughts were also to "follow the movement" of the pattern. Thanks for the advice. After all the work that goes into a Bargello, I certainly don't want to quilt it wrong. |
