quilting delimma

I want to quilt/machine write words around the border of a quilt but, the writing will be backwards on the back of the quilt. Any ideas what I can do?

You have to do it before you start the quilting. It can be done if you do it before you make the quilt sandwich, but you have to do it separately on both sides and then make sure you don't quilt through the letters. I have written on the quilt, and don't worry about not being able to read the back. If your thread matches the backing on the quilt, then you won't even see it.

Another option would be to use a backing fabric with enough pattern to it, that the quilted words would be somewhat camouflaged on the back.

The words can be a very personal touch to the quilt, so don't hesitate in doing them.

I would just go ahead and do it, and not worry about the back. I've seen a few quilts with writing in the quilting, and it's always been reversed on the back. I would choose a bobbin thread that blends into the backing, but the reversed text wouldn't bother me at all. If someone wants to read the message, I don't think it's too much to ask that they look at the front.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think I will use a printed fabric on the back border and a solid on the front where I want to put words.
