Quilting Density on Table Runner
 

Would you be as concerned about meeting quilting density requirements of your batting on a Christmas table runner that is not likely to see the use and washing of a quilt or placemats? I have Hobbs 80/20 in a 14”x60” table runner and there are spaces left a bit larger than the 3 1/2” requirement that aren’t quilted and I’m stuck as to what to add that won’t take away from the runner which is appliquéd. Thanks for your opinions on this :).

You may do anything you wish, for myself I try to folllow recommendations on batting because I want my finished item to last and the receiver to enjoy said item. I wash my placemats and runners, as I like to use them, I would be so sad if I received a gift that when washed turned into a big unusable lump. But if it’s for your own use then that’s entirely up to you. At the end of the day there are no rules, and we can do what ever we want with what we make. But do share pictures, because we all love to see what everyone else is working on !

I quilt closer than the package says, I don't want to take any chances.

I would think that if it just a bit more than the 31/2 inches it should be OK. Hopefully, an appliqued, special occasion table runner will be handled somewhat gently.

If you've done quilting that close, you should be fine. i use that batting all the time.

Thanks everyone! I’ll post a pic after Christmas! While it’s less densely quilted than I would normally quilt (I lean to the quilt it to death camp), another look at it has convinced me to leave it where it’s at.
