When using your embroidery machine for quilting don't go through the extra finger or loop on your bobbin - that makes your bobbin thread tighter - you want it more for sewing. Also you will want to change the tension - I check what the tension is for regular sewing, then when my embroidery unit is ready to stitch I change the tension to match the sewing tension. This keeps the thread from drawing to the back. Don't know if this makes sense but it makes a world of difference on my Bernina.

I machine embroidered quilted a kingsize double wedding quilt on my first embroidery machine and it was a husqvarna designer D1, short harp. Now I have a janome 12000 with a longer harp and those quilts just fly :)

I have been afraid to try this... Do I use a stabelizer on the back?

I have a Viking Topaz and have used the quilt designs from emblibrary.com a couple of times. I think the designs come out nice. The only problem I had was with the tension on the back. After doing my first block and thinking the front came out wonderful I looked at the back and the stiches were loose , so after a couple of tries I realized I just needed to max out the tension and then I was good to go.

I do it all the time and just use my regular hoops. Just have to make sure they are on right.

I use mine to quilt all the time. No stabilizer just lovely stitching

What size designs do you use for the quilting?

I usually use as big as my block or the size of hoop I'm using.
