Quilting Embroidery Thread?

I would like to use some designs I have purchased, to embroider but the rayon and polyester thread I used on samples doesn't look like crocheted doilies does any one know where I can buy thread that is not shiny and 30 weight? I would to have the appearence of hand crochet doily's. thank you in advance for your help. maggie

I've used cotton thread in my embroidery machines. Madeira also makes a matte finish poly thread.

Why not go to a store and buy a spool Coats and Clark cotton thread and see how that works. It certainly will not hurt anything.

Superior Threads has many embroidery weight threads that are not poly or rayon.

This is on my to do list and the cotton coats and clarks is what the design maker at embroidery library recommend. Check out there site, they have directions.

I use Mettler 30 wt. cotton thread for my satin stitch.

I always think about crochet as using a thin yarn. To try to get that with thread, I'd go with Aurifil 12wt (extra long staple cotton thread). Depending on how finicky your machine is, you may need to run the 12wt through the bobbin & do it as bobbin work. I found out on my Bernina 350, I can actually load a 12wt in the top (and then put 50wt in the bobbin).
To truly get closest to the look of a crocheted doily, I'd recommend giving Free Motion couching a try. You could use actual crochet yarn with either a clear poly monofiliment or a matching 50wt cotton. They make fancy couching feet for most modern machines, but as long as you have an embroidery foot and a steady hand, you should be fine. You just free motion the design you want & the yarn gets tacked down in that design.

I sdee yu are in San Antonio. The best thing you can do is head on over to Patty's Sewing Center-DEZavala IH-10 area. They have wonderful assortments of threads and I'm sure they will have what your need.
