As promised, I have now posted my fleece backed quilt ...

I love the idea of a fleece back! Should you prewash the fabrics for the top if they are all cotton so it doesn't shrink? Would it be all wonky with uneven shrinking if you don't? (Hope that makes sense!)

I always pre-wash/dry in hot/hot all my cottons ... before they go to my sewing room! |

If you are using fleece on the back, you can leave the batt out. This helps reduce the chance of the layers shifting. I think I would 505 spray baste to help control it also. I would choose a quilting design that goes mostly in the direction of the least stretch in the fleece. I think it is the lengthwise that stretches less?
I made a baby blanket with fleece back & pieced front; squares & nine patches. I used a walking foot & straight lines. Child is now 2 & still uses it. |
I found some SUPER UGLY casino-print (poker chips, cards, in hideous colors) fleece lap blankets on clearance at a Hancock Fabrics once for $2 each. I bought a few to use in lieu of batting for some charity quilts. It worked perfectly. All the "ugly" was covered up, never to be seen again, and with cotton top and backing the fleece didn't stretch or give me any other problems. They were the cheapest and probably warmest kid's quilts I ever made.

QuiltE, good idea. The quilting is going better. When I'm finished I'll post a picture.

I used fleece as a backing, and didn't have any problems with it, I FMQ it.
