How does the fleece do as backing? Does it respond the same way quilting cotton does when quilted?

Also, has anyone ever used "sweatshirt fleece" in a quilt?

I would prefer to use Minkee as a back over fleece. It stays so nice and soft.

I have used fleece on 3 smaller quilts. I didn't wash it before hand and had no problems with shrinking. My stitches were kind of hidden in the fleece, which was great for any mistakes. (And I make alot!! LOL!!) My little granddaughter loves the fleece backed quilts. She loves to cuddle under them on cold days.

I have never tried the sweatshirt fleece. Doesn't it stretch more than traditional fleece?

One of my friends uses fleece backing a lot and loves it especially warm for the cottage she says!

sweatshirt fleece works well too (sweatshirt jackets are proof of this!)
i don't think the stretch is any more than any other fleece, it all stretches so you have to be careful to lay everything out nice and smooth without stretching it. other than that it quilts up easily, the stitches sink into the fleece and really don't show much. once you make one...everyone is going to be asking for them :)
everyone i made quilts for in the past (with regular cotton backs) wants a new quilt with fleece or minkee on the back!

The best thing aboutfleece is how WARM it will be!

i agree, if i was to choose between the two. have you ever pieced a backing using minkee or kept to the standard size? just wondering with about the seam.

I haven't used fleece as backing, I have used it as batting though. It quilted without issues and is easily the warmest quilt I've made. I'm planning one for myself, and I will use Warm and Natural batting with either fleece or minkee backing...I CANNOT WAIT to snuggle under that one.

I've wondered if you couldn't just use sweatshirt fleese as a combo batting and backing. What do you think?
