quilting a GFG

I'm working on my first GFG and am wondering how to quilt it. it is all done by hand and the hexagons are pretty small. 1/2 inch. I'm thinking SID. I started out planning a twin size but a wall hanging looks more likely now.
Thanks for your help.

I'm with you. A wall hanging is a good size. I have been working on one for 2 or 3 years in between other projects. It is almost big enough for a wall hanging now. They are a lot of work! I'm interested to see recommendations for quilting.

i started mine about 3 months ago 3/4" hexes, and now i'm 40" x 48" it doesn't matcvh anything in my home, so i guess the kitty's getting it. she love it. it's allhand done, so i MUST hand quilt it. (on something like this, isn't againt the rules NOT to hand quilt it??????) :)
it's probably against the rules to give something like that to your kitty also, but who made the rules???
i guess i'll give it to her and SID also.
good luck

Personally, I've never understood hand quilting in the ditch. If I'm going to all that work I want someone to see it!
If your hex colors form a pattern, I'd quilt through the diagonal on that pattern.

I actually saw a full size GFG that was hand stitched outlining every hexagon..Must have taken a life time!!

My grandmother made several GFG's. The amazing part is she sat in her chair holding a worn cardboard template and kind of cut the hexagons out in mid air. They all came out perfect. She handquilted them all and she either outline quilted them or did an X through the middle of the hexagon. Don't waste your handquilting in a ditch! :)

Back in the '90's, I quilted a GFG top that my great grandmother pieced back in the '50's. I hand quilted all the hexagons 1/4" from the seams and it looks very nice.
