You all probably already know this tip, but just in case I wanted to share it. I have recently taken up machine quilting and was finding it difficult to handle all the bulk. I read about quilting gloves and how important they are but couldn't find any locally, so I went to Lowes yesterday and bought a pair of cheap ($2.50) gardening gloves with the rubber spots on the palms and fingers. What a difference they make. I couldn't believe how much easier the machine quilting was with the gloves on. I quilted 4 blocks of the quilt in just a little bit of time.

I also had heard that some use gardening gloves for handling the quilts. I had already pretty much made up my mind that I wouldn't like wearing gloves while sewing, but seeing as I had bought a 6 pack of gardening gloves at Costco and still had some new ones in the closet I thought I would just see what it was like. I was SOLD!.......what a difference it makes.

I'm totally with you on this one - I keep a pair by my sewing machine, and they do make a tremendous difference! The cotton keeps my hands cool and the dots work well. One of these days I may go ahead and order some Machingers, but for now the gardening gloves work for me.

I have a nice pair of those gloves. Haven't had the time to use them as yet, but I will shortly! Gotta thank Roben for them! :) :) :)

I bought Fons and Porters gloves for two dollars at Joanns some time ago.
My only gripe is you cant do anything else with them on, like thread a needle or replace a bobbin. You have to take them off.
I am thinking about cutting off the tip of the index fingers part.
I dont like wearing gloves they get in the way. But will give them another chance. They are nice and thin with rubber on the bottom side so they are made for quilters.

I agree with Rose Marie that it is a pain having to take them off every time you need to snip a thread, etc., but they make the quilting so much easier that it is worth the extra trouble.

fHobby Lobby have them also they are Fon and Porter brand, I brought mine from connecting thread magazine ,I love mine they are not bulky or thick the weight is like the white dress gloves feel like i dont have them on.

I couldn't agree more. Didn't use them for a long time and finally bought a pair. I wouldn't be without them now.

Love my gloves too! I found a new use for them recently - my husband has to wear the compression socks due to swelling in his feet & legs, the gloves work really great to push the socks up over the ankles. LOL but they really do work for both purposes!
