Quilting Help

1 Attachment(s)
I started this quilt 2 years ago for the birth of my firstborn, Emma. I just finished her brother's quilt the other day (he is due in 7 weeks) and I feel terrible about it. But I have just been stuck! It was my first quilt, and I tried handquilting but got bored and was too scared to try machine quilting. I have since gotten over that fear, but now I have no idea how to quilt this thing. I have very little experience machine quilting, and no FMQ experience. I would also like to have this done before my son arrives. Any suggestions?

How about putting on your walking foot and quilting "rays" coming out from the Sun to the edges. You can space them any way you want. Keep in mind your batting and how far apart those directions say to quilt. Just a thought.:)

I would outline quilt the sun first. Maybe make a giant happy face in the middle of the sun circle. I would then quilt out from the sun in FMQ squiggly lines or use the squiggly fancy stitch and the walking foot in the same way until I reached the border design. I would then stitch down the stem of the green vine. Great top and your daughter will love it so get cracking!

Good idea! Do the rays. You can mark your lines with painter's tape and whiz right along. You will be finished in no time.

I forgot to say, it is really a beautiful quilt!

Love the quilt! I agree. Quilt rays from the sun out to the edge of the quilt and stitch around the sun. I would add a face in the middle of the sun. You did a great job!

I thought about the rays...but the only problem is i just did that on my son's quilt. I know it would be easiest, but I kinda feel bad doing the same thing on both of them. I do plan on quilting around the sun...and if it helps anyone this quilt was based on the disney movie Tangled.

Here is my son's quilt!

I would use a walking foot and make the rays wavy lines coming from the sun (after outlining around the sun). I don't think it's a problem to use rays on both quilts! Plus the rays will have very different looks.

if you don't want to I rays again, how about after you outline stitch the sun, follow the outline again 2 inches out all around several times? Kind of like a ripples in a pond effect?

oh the rays idea is genius!! wow, see why I love this board?!!

they are both wonderful! =)) you did a great job!
