Quilting Inspiration in Israel
4 Attachment(s)
My husband and I toured Israel in November and I was amazed at the ancient tile mosaics that have been preserved so well. The photos are from floors in Bethlehem, Bet She'an and Masada. They reminded me of some quilting patterns that we use today. I would like to make a quilt, maybe with hexagons, that will remind me of these beautiful tiles, and a wonderful journey through the Holy Land.

Wow what beauty. I wonder if the artists realized how long their work would last?

What a beautiful memory. I love the diamonds.

Thank you for sharing. I love the patterns -- all sorts of projects come to mind.
I, too, have taken pix of mosaics and tiles as I travelled. I have them in a folder on a computer I rarely use any more. There is a sound barrier wall on I-5 north in the Tacoma WA area that I want to take a pix of that are wonderful curved patterns in the concrete walls. Mim |
Those patterns would make outstanding quilts

I took some of the same type of pictures in Italy last summer. They are beautiful...BUT....you get sensory overload just looking!

I am always amazed by ancient mosiacs. You think, I could do that if I sketched it out but they did it without pencil and paper. They had to measure with a length of wood, they had to make and cut the tiles somehow. They leveled the surface by hand. They put the tiles into cement they mixed themselves. Amazing!!!

Beautiful tile inspirations & I'm sure it will lead you to a lovely quilt to warm you with memories of this adventure.
