If you contacted Brother, how could they tell from the model number where you purchased your machine.? If something breaks with a Walmart machine, it will not be supported the same way a machine from a sewing machine dealer would be. I think $199 is a bit high from Walmart. I'd check out a Husqvarna Viking dealer inside JoAnn's or a Brother, Janome, etc, sewing machine dealer in a free-standing store. Look for a machine with at least a one-year warranty vs. 30, 60 or 90 days. |
I also have two Brother machines and I bought one of my grandsons a Brother machine from Walmart and they all work great!

I bought my Brother(the Project Runway model) at Wal Mart and use it to take back and forth to class. After about one year of being bounced around, back and forth in the car, it is still fine and I like it very much.

I have the Brother 1500 and love it. I bought two from Wal Mart and had to take them both back. Bought the 1500 online for 600 and it is wonderful and has a 9 inch throat. It only has a straight stitch but I like that. If you could find a second hand 1500 it should be less and they hold up really well.

Plus, if you ever have trouble with your machine, the owner knows you and will take care of you. You won't get that a at Walmart.

If you get it from Walmart save the reciept and try it out right away go through the paces on it if not what you want take it back . All machines have a learning curve the harp on a machine is a main factor quilting and a good walking foot for stitch in the ditch quilting . and feed dogs that lower for free motion quilting . Use it a lot the first week to see if it will work out for you and like I said if not pack back in box with receipt and take it back

Yje Brother 1500 runs between $600/700. on Amazon. 9.5" harp and pinfeed. I never use a walking foot on this machine. I also have used it on a D-M frame for a king sized quilt

My Brother was purchased years ago at Walmart never any problems, and it is my second Brother machine, I actually wore my first one out, it was a beige and orange-pretty machine I didn't like to have a plain old white machine though.
