quilting memory quilt
 

I am ready to quilt a memory quilt with photos and I am wondering
if you quilt over the photo, if so does it detract from the picture?

After quilting several t-shirt quilts and memory quilts. Changing thread 37 times for different colors. I have found the answer - thanks to a quilting buddy. The new monofilament thread or invisible thread. Works great - just quilt over everything. Great. Saves alot of time and I would have paid 10x what it cost for the convenience. Good luck.

I didn't quilt over my photos. I used the blanket stitch on my machine around the perimeter of each picture and stippled the rest of the quilt with invisible thread. Looked great.

I think it also depends on the size of the photos. If they're small you can get away with quilting around them, but if they're large you need some stitches in that area to keep the quilt together.

I prefer no stitching in the photos, but if I must, I usually pick something in the background and stitch that rather than a person. Depending on the photo, it can add a nice touch.

I try not to quilt on the photos unless they are large and require some stitching to hold everything in place. I usually quilt around them in the ditch and then finish doing whatever it was I wanted to do to complete the quilt.
