I have been working on this quilt for over 4 months. If I did get time to work on it I had to keep undoing what I did. Finally got the top put together and thought I would try spray basting that have heard so much about on here. Well, I bought me some spray and laid out my batting and the spray I was using came out like that silly string stuff the kids us. It is called Fast Track 55 and I bought it because it was a bit cheaper than the others.
Asa soon as I laid the sandwich together I knew I was in trouble because it was hard to pull it loose to reposition. finally got it together and then I tried quilting it. Oh my, that was a nightmare. The needle kept sticking and grabbing so I had a lot of time with my seam ripper. Got it FMQed and started on the binding and of course when I squared it the back was not even so I had to figure out how to fix it. Got it finished and it took me over 4 hours just to handstitch the binding. I sure hope this grandbaby uses this until it falls apart.lol

These colors are more vibrant than they look and for some reason the back did not show.

Are you sure you had a basting spray and not a spray glue?

QuiltnCowgirl 05-04-2011 12:04 PM

Well sounds like the "super glue" basting spray insures that! Sorry that you had so many frustrations with such a cute quilt. I like the snowball blocks & colors. Hope your next quilt is a breeze as a reward for all you've endured with this one.

It said basting spray on it but it did act more like a glue. I bought some June Taylor to try the next time.

It is very cute. I'm sure your grandbaby will appreciate it.

Cheers, K

I think it's very pretty. Sorry it had to be such a nightmare

You did a great job on the quilt, I'm sure it will be well loved.
I use 505 basting spray and have never had any trouble, it's worth paying the bit extra.

Same here! Sorry you had so much trouble with it!!!
sometimes saving a little $$ is just not worth the hassle!!

Maybe washing it will help get rid of some of the glue/spray.

Dolphyngyrl 05-04-2011 03:09 PM

Never heard of that brand, you sure it was basting spray

I love the fabrics chosen ! I have a problem with my own camera. My quilt guild have told me.. "your quilts are brighter than in your pictures!"

So, camera Camera.. what to do..

Thanks for sharing.. Always looking for patterns !

Hi,

Oh my, what an ordeal you went thru...phew!

I only use the 505 basting spray, you can reposition your quilt, yet it holds. Maybe costs a few bucks more, but worth it.
Also found that 505 doesn't have the smell that others, like June Tailor, did that gave me a major headache after I was done spraying. Spray it in a ventilated area if you have trouble with odors or sprays.
Hope your next project is much easier for you!

My first spray basting experiment was with a can of 3M adhesive I bought at a hardware store. I didn't even know that there was different products available for us quilters. I think I glued the cat to the wall and my dog to the floor. That was one "hairy" mess to clean up. :-(
