Quilting paper pieced quilts

What is the best way to quilt a paper pieced quilt since the piecing is so bulky. I love paper piecing but have no idea how to quilt it.

Why is it so bulky?I have done several and have no more bulk than a regular pieced quilt.Did you trim your edges to 1/4 and remove the paper?

Yes, I trimmed the seams and removed the paper but there are a lot of small pieces therefore many connecting seams. The squares are done in sections and many are sewn together on the diagonal. These are from the Backyard Bird Quilts book.

I made Paper Panache's "Nativity" & it had many tiny pieces & there was quite a bit of bulk, even after trimming.
When FMQing, using clear thread, I just went right over all the seams to hold them down & control the bulk.

I'm planning to free motion quilt my Maine Star quilt, avoiding the centers as they are very thick. Just haven't decided yet on design and thread color.
