I stitched together a baby quilt that is made with 5 bright colors in the shape of rectangles. The sashing is 1 inch squares using the same color. My question is: what type of quilting pattern would I use to finish off the quilt? Straight lines or curvy lines? Can you help ?

Do you have a pic ? What direction are your rectangles going ?

I would love to see a pic. That helps with deciding what quilting to do.

Here are a couple of pics taken with my digital camera in my sewing room with just the overhead light.

I say curvy loops and something loopy also in the borders. It's so linear already that straight "geometic" quilting would make it look too hard and cold. Love the brights, by the way.

I agree. I think a non-linear pattern, like meandering or loops, would look nice.

Love the colors and the quilt :)

Love the quilt! Reminds me of Lego blocks

Thanks for your input. I was thinking the same thing; I wanted to get away from the same ol' SITD, which I have already done to outline the rectangles. Now I'm thinking I'll do curly Q s's in the border and maybe one large one in each of the rectangles. I'm so structured all the time. I have no spontaneousnous. :|

Just a thought , but what about doing another rectangle inside the rectangle ?

Or maybe do other shapes , circles, squares, triangles . you have the room to get creative  Have fun

If you have it - I would stitch the baby's name and date of birth somewhere.

I thought the same thing, but my granddaughter wants the name to be a surprise to her family. I always liked guessing whether it will be a boy or girl and knowing the name.

I saw your note that you're moving to Texas. Can't say as I blame you. Where in Texas?

what about the piano keys around the boarder

I would do the wavy lines to break of the straight lines

My DH got transferred to the Houston area. We're looking in Tomball, Cypress, Spring, and Katy. Dropped my price 20K last week - only spurred two new lookers though. Both liked it - both working on finances. Hopefully an offer this next week. Praying - praying - praying. He's already working there two weeks then here one. We have to put our son in school here then move him - I don't want to do that to him - but it's looking like we may have to.

Hi, some how this one got by me. I love the great colors. Please post another pic when finished.

Thank you for all your kind remarks.

I agree that something fluid and curvy would look great and becoming.

Another idea . .. if you wanted you could do outlines of various items for your quilting in the rectangles. Like an apple or a house or animals ... that list is endless.

Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words. I actually tried your idea and could not get the hang of the FMQ. Tried and tried, actually. At times like this, I keep thinking, "Why am I trying to quilt? I should stick to painting!" But, alas. I'm already planning my next project!!!:)

Love those colors!

how about some ribbon candy in the blocks? I think the piano keys in the border is a great idea. Where do you live in AZ? I'm in Glendale. deciding the quilting design is always the hardest for me. I once circled a quilt for 3 weeks before I could even get started on the 1st border. It DID get done, but I think I dreamt about it for a month!
