When you actually do the quilting on a project do you have to quilt both horizontally and vertically? Can you just sew in one direction? Will the batting bunch up if I quilt 4 inches apart and just vertically?
I don't know what possessed me to try something beyond by exlperience level. So now I'm stuck. I used a lot of scraps to make a zig-zag pattern. Now I'm not sure how to quilt it. I've only done stitch in the ditch on previous projects.... still a beginner. Any thoughts would be very helpful thanks in advance |
If I am machine quilting, i sandwich the quilt top/batting/backing using spray basting and anchor it down each side. I quilt in both directions so that there is no shifting. I found sewing in the same direction can cause it to shift in the direction you are sewing.
Hope this helps... :) |
Thanks,
It does help. Alice |
To aid you when you are having to stitch "away from the ditch" you can put a piece of blue painter's tape on your quilt top and then stitch beside it. We used this technique on a quilt to help us have somewhat straight quilting lines through out the quilt in both directions. There was no one seam that went the whole way to follow!!!
