Quilting with Quilter's Choice Professional on Hinterberg frame
I can not get the tension adjusted. If I take it off the frame, I can get it to sew just fine. Put together a whole quilt. I put it in the frame, load a quilt and get nothing but loopiness on the back of the quilt. So I keep tightening the top tension, but it's really not helping. What gives? Has anyone had this experience?

Are you lowering the presser foot?
What foot are you using? Darning-type foot or a hopping foot? Feed dogs: up or down?? |
Make certain your quilt isn't stretched too tight. You should be able to poke a finger from the underside to the top and grab with your other hand. This makes for a better stitch. My other thought is that you may be going too fast around curves as I sometimes have this problem.

Some times not using the right size needle will cause that. If you have tightened the top tension to no avail I would try all of the following in succession, testing after each action:
As others have stated check to make sure the presser foot is down, probably the number one cause of the problem you describe for quilting machines that require it (my longarm does not) completely rethread the machine change the needle to a larger size Loosen the bobbin tension |
Make sure your rails are level. I had a problem with skipped stitches and it was because I didn't have my rails level.
