I am curious...
I quilt small lap quilts, wall hangings and one twin quilt on my home sewing machine.
I am taking on a larger quilt and am wondering about "sending it out to the quilters"?
How do you do this? How do you prepare the quilt top?
Do they care on battings and backings...and how larger should they be?
How much do they usually charge so I know I am in the ball park.

I have a long arm quilter that does my quilting for me on big projects.
She charges 2 cents per inch.
She provides the batting.
I mail her the backing and the top. The backing has to be 6 inches bigger all the way around.
She will attach the binding for $10 extra.
I send it insured, signature required, US mail.
Her turn around time is about 4 weeks, sometimes less.

She and her husband are fantastic!
I let them pick the design, because it is always so beautiful.

No, she pays for the batting as part of her service.

No extra charge for it, correct?
So, if your quilt were 100x100, she would charge you $200, for the entire quilt including the batting...right?

that's about right.
I just got a quote on a 92x92 for $200, and she was attaching the binding.

She's fantastic. Actually, as she is undergoing chemo and radiation therapy right now her husband is doing the long arm quilting. He's fantastic, too. He's recovering from a liver and kidney transplant.

I found a gal in Fresno, very reasonably priced. She did a queen for me last year, for $35, I supplied the batting. Took about a month turn around time. If you PM me, I'll give you her name.
