Hi all,

I had read the thread about sewing machines to put in RV's and I have a question. What do your husbands do when you are quilting.
I ask, because we just got a motorhome and we are going to hopefully do more traveling. We still have kids at home, so it isn't something we will do full time, as my husband still works. He would like to sell the home when we retire and travel full time. I told him my sewing machine needs to come along and he said "yea, I will be sitting in a rocker and you will be quilting." He knows I like to quilt and that it is one of my hobbies. I love to be outdoors and hiking and such, so for those of you that do this, what do your husbands do? He hasn't taken up golf, neither of us fish very well, but we like to.

My husband loves to read and work on word and number puzzles and he always has some woodworking magazines that we bring along. I enjoy these things too, but if I get a sewing machine in the trailer they will probably take a back seat to quilting.

Drive? :)
watches tv, reads his book, watches the world go by...what ever he wants. i am doing what i want, he does what he wants, i do not depend on him to find things for me to do and i do not offer suggestions on things he should do...when rv-ing we do what we want. and most of the time he is driving i am sewing...when we are 'parked' i do alot of other things for me it is a while traveling activity.
enjoy the rv-ing, once you get a few trips under your belt you will both have it all figured out :)

My husband likes to visit so he would be off making new friends in the campground or if no one is around--bugging me and watching tv. We don't have an RV yet but I often take my obsession on vacation with us and set it up in whatever hotel, motel or condo. You would fall out of your chair laughing if you overheard the arguments and witty comments about the space my quilting stuff takes up on trips--especially motorcycle trips! If he wants me to go--my stuff goes! He does help me with colors & designs, though. He even holds my place in the cutting line at Joann's. Don't feel sorry for him, though. He loves doing this because all the women flirt with him and he knows the lingo from helping me which just makes more women pay attention to him--LOL!

My husband likes to fly RC planes, or run his RC monster trucks. While you're in the motor home sewing send him to nearby towns to scout out fabric stores. There's reading, hiking, fishing, boating, swimming, shopping, etc. or he could get his own hobby--wood carving is a wonderful hobby, can (and probably should be) done outside, perhaps he'd like to build bird houses. You could leave one everywhere you camp. Let your friends and family know his type and color scheme to see if they can ever run across one. OR, he could take the kids on an exploration excursion--pack them a picnic lunch, bug spray, a small first aid kit and sunscreen and send them off. Then you have the whole day to yourself so that you can sew.

we just bought a 37 foot bus to turn into a motor home, so far we have only just taken the insides out and are linning it with pannel board, I did make the sugestion that we could buy a caravan to live in and I could set up my quilting machine and kingsize quilting bed in the bus, IT DIDN'T GO DOWN TO WELL. LOL. one day when it is finished we may take of for a week or 2, we can't do much till I give up breeding cats, and mum dies, mum is 93 and still has most of her marbles. so it could be a while. but I am in no hurry for mum to go I love looking after her.

Your story sounds like mine. We camp about 2 times a year in our pop-up camper, plan to buy a nice RV and travel when DH retires in about 15 years. I always take hand sewing/quilting with me to camp, our teen DD's go off to play tennis & hike and DH usually fishes as we usually camp by the water. That way it's relaxing for all of us. :)

I like to have a few quilts ready to bind. When we go on short trips the lake in our trailer I can sit and bind outside and enjoy the scenry. He can read or rest and I can be busy with quilting. This keeps us both happy.

When we were on the road, DH read, watched tv, played games on computer, socialized, and gold mined! We belong to Lost Dutchman Mining Association and he does his thing and I do mine. Other than that...he bugs me.......... :)

My husband can talk to anyone, so he visits and I just sew. We want to spend a month in Florida this winter and I am looking forward to making some small projects. Sometimes we are visiting family and he stays busy with them. I make an excuse about starting dinner and then I have some quiet time. He mostly does his thing and I do mine. Sewing machine makes too much noise for him to watch tv sometimes and the light is not good in the evenings.
