Quilting on a small machine.

Hello Everyone,

I am just beginning to quilt and I want to learn how to quilt on a small machine before even thinking of getting the frame and all. What site or training can I go to and learn how to step by step quilt on a small machine. I know people did this way before the frames. I just want to see if this is really something that I can do. I can start on small baby quilts and see where i go from there. Any help would be so appreciated.

Have a happy 4th.

There are several classes on Craftsy for quilting with a small machine. I am currently doing one on FMQ with Leah Day, and I like her style of teaching.

I went to you tube and watched some of those and also took a class on crafty.com and that gave me the go ahead to try and left the fear behind. Also saw something, I think on here about turning your machine so that it looks like a quilting machine and you won't have bulk? I might have to try that. It sounds quite interesting.

Harriet Hargrave - Heirloom Machine Quilting - excellent reference book. She does all her quilting on a domestic machine.

I should look at the technique quilt as you go where you can work on small blocks prior to joining them together.

Check your library (or purchase) these books:
http://www.amazon.com/Heirloom-Machi...dp/1571202366/
and
http://www.amazon.com/Machine-Quilti...dp/B000NNGZJE/

The first shows you with photos and in detail how to master free-motion quilting on a domestic machine. The second shows you different methods of splitting a large quilt up into sections so you can quilt large quilts on a domestic machine.

I started machine quilting on a small throat sewing machine. I just jumped in and did it. Now I quilt on a 9" throat machine. Not a big deal, once you get use to it.
