I'm finishing a quilt a friend started. It's one that you quilt each square first and then sew together. The backing of each square is cut bigger than the quilt top and there is sashing on each top also. I suppose I fold the backing somehow and sew each square together. Need some instructions

There are many different methods of doing QAYG (quilt as you go).

One brings the back fabric to the front and finishes off the block which are then sewn together.

Another attaches the blocks with sashing strips. I use a variation of this method.

Both give you very different looks on the front AND the back.

I can't tell from your post which one you're looking for or which might be more appropriate.

If you can post a picture of your blocks as they are now, you can probably get more focused advice.

It sounds like Fun and Done. It's sewn with the backs together, along the edge of the batting. Then the backing, which is now on top, is folded and stitched to the front of the block, creating the sashing. As you finish rows, they are then sewn together the same way and again stitch the "backing" down on the front.

WOW, Thank you for all the info, I always a problem on how to finish especially at the end where you have to try and hide seams and dont want the stitching to show.

yep, i made one with backing two inches larger i think.
First i sewed two blks together through the backing fabric, right next to the top block and batting. then laid the blks flat and folded the backing over to the raw edges of the top and batting and then over again covering the top block edges and stitched in place with a blanket stitch.
