you could just do a simple grid with a couple of different stitches. kinda mix it up and defiantly use a variegated thread in blues and green

Go with what YOU are comfortable doing. You have a deadline, so no time for frogging if you aren't happy. Quilted well is more important than quilted fancy.

you could do a diagonal grid and then go back in the white squares and do a swirl/circle by putting your needle down in the center of the X your grid made and slowly turning the quilt as you sew. would dress it up just a tad.

I think a diagonal grid on the main part would look very nice. You may have to do a grid following the 4 patches as well if the diagonal lines end up being too far apart for your batting. On the border, I would do a cross hatching grid between the round circles to finish it off.

I would just like to thank everyone for their awesome suggetstions. I started out quilting a grid but then I got more and more carried away. I turned out great. The completed quilt is here:

I used a variegated thread called Ocean by Sulky. The thread on the backn(solid) matched so completely it looks almost invisible and made taking out a couple of rows of stitching pretty challenging. I am very happy with this quilt. I think it might be my best one yet!
