Quilting Suggestions Please

This isn't the quilt I've made but I'm in the process of piecing one just like it. I always have a hard time deciding how I should quilt a finished project. I don't want to stitch in the ditch or echo this one. I have limited experience in FMQing so it needs to be a simple quilting pattern but I'd also thought that maybe this one deserves to be hand quilted. I'd be able to hand quilt a more detailed pattern. Suggestions would be appreciated. :) |
From one hand quilter to another, that's what I would recommend since you can add more detail than if you FMQ it. Continue practicing your FMQ until you feel you can do a quilt your best work. Until then continue piecing and practicing!:D

If it were mine, I would do diagonal lines then fill in with swirls. The quilt pattern and fabrics are so pretty. It will be gorgeous when you're done! (And your dogs look like my grand-guys!)

I'd probably do something swirly as well, just to soften all of the angles. But I'm also very partial to stars, so might do some of them in places too. I have a hard time with some quilts as well coming up with quilting designs. For me, that's one of the more difficult aspects of quilting.

I would quilt a diagonal through the star centers both ways, then a diagonal through the squares both ways. Then swirls in the light parts.
Awww, your girls are cute! My grand-guys are Toby (Toblerone) on the right and Nick (Snickers) on the left. Or as their mother calls them, Biggy and Bitty. They are real cuddly sweeties. And they love their grandma of course. |
And maybe a SITD around the stars?

I think you did a beautiful job in piecing so that you should do the hand quilting. Just my opinion.
