Quilting supplies are where you find them

I've gotten back into some hand quilting recently, as I'm working on quilting a top made by my great-grandmother. I've been having trouble with the thimble hitting against my ring finger, and it doesn't take long before it becomes painful. I've discovered a solution -- I got a roll of non-adhesive stretchy first aid wrap. It's elastic and sticks to itself. If you've ever given blood they may have wrapped your arm with this after the procedure. I wrap it around my ring finger a couple times and it provides sufficient padding. Just thought I'd pass on the tip!

That's a great idea, thanks for passing it along.

Same thing as vet wrap. You can get it cheap at places like Tractor Supply or pet supply stores.

I always keep those after I give blood but never find a use for them! Not sure what you mean by thimble hitting your ring finger.

Yup. Same thing. I always keep vet wrap around just in case. Of course, my husband isn't to keen on having bright blue wrap on his hand. lol

I had to use the fluorescent yellow-green with "No Chew" stamped all over it in blue for my husband's forearm (bobwire fence attack) one time.

My metal thimble is on my middle finger. As I quilt, the rim of the thimble repeatedly hits the knuckle of my ring finger, and very soon it's sore. The wrap around the ring finger knuckle pads it and protects it from being injured.
