Quilting thread color?
1 Attachment(s)
Back story -
experienced seamstress, relatively new quilter, quilting on a domestic Kenmore, about 10 quilts quilted (60 or so practice quilts A.K.A dog blankets quilted) I have only ever quilted with white thread. I made this with gifted fabric, Browns and off white. I do not care for it much, but I learned a lot. now it is time to quilt it, and I cannot use white, but would off white look dirty on the brown parts? |
you don't have to use the same thread all over, quilt it in sections and you can match your thread to a pleasing color
|
You could certainly match the thread color to the background fabric and it would be highlighted on the colored patches. That would be very pretty. But, you could use several colors of thread and match each patch. That would emphasize the pattern in the quilt and not draw attention to the quilting in the patches. It would give great opportunity to use great quilt motifs in the off-white squares. Lots of opportunities. Be sure to show us the finished quilt.

If you didn't go with different colors depending where you are in the quilt and wanted an all over color, could you use the very light tan you have in the corner squares?
|
Are you going to be SITD or do an all over FMQ?? I myself would ditch the sashing and the brown triangles with a matching thread. I have lots of stencils so then I would change to a cranberry outline the square and stitch a simple design inside the square. I would then match the background and use another stencil in the corners and half triangles. If you are not ready to try FMQ, then I would just crosshatch the background squares and triangles.

Off white will blend in great if that is what you want to use. It is only one thread, and it is amazing how a light neutral thread color (off white, pale gray, pale yellow, cream, taupe, etc) just blend in just fine.

Take your spool of thread and roll off a few feet, puddle it on your dark blocks then step back a bit to view. I think if you choose a darker shade of cream it will look very nice. JMHO

I use off white all the time. It looks wonderful.

You did a great job on the quilt,,!!!!

It will provide great contrast both in the brown and the red. An opportunity for some fancy FMQ.
