How far apart should your quilting be---I have forgotten!!!
In fact i don't think I was ever told if there is a rule for this. |
What is required depends on the type of batting.
It's warm and natural type batting, shoudl it be 4 inches or 6 inches??
Look at the quilting requirements, it should be on the batting's package
Their web site says up to 10", but personally I would not go any farther than 5 or 6".
Amma---I threw the label out---been on with this one a while!!

Thanks and to you all for your help |
battings vary greatly from needing to be quilted every 2" up to every 10-12" so it depends on the batting first off, if you want to do some real heavy quilting use the 2" stuff; if your batting says it can be quilted up to 10" apart that pretty much gives you lots of 'play-room' you can decide what you want to do and decide on proportion to get it balanced around the quilt without worrying too much about not getting it enough (unless you just outlined 12" blocks..) so start with your batting requirements then choose a design you like that fits in that requirement.

Your batting's package will tell you the quilting requirements if it is not on a bolt. Some needs to be quilted as small as 2-4 inches, others can take up to 10" apart. But just because it says 10" doesn't mean you cannot do a tighter quilting.

Thanks for your advice. |
I was told that the quilting should be a fists width apart. Works good most of the time.
Fancifrock----that's good rule of thumb---or so we say in England, thank you
don't pay any attention to what the label says. Quilt enough so you will give the layers stability depending on the ultimate use of the piece. Even a wall hanging that is quilted 10" apart will droop in time with weight and humidity. I say there should be a consistency of quilting overall the quilt. Design will also make a difference.
