On Bigfork Bay Cotton Company's FB page they are asking your opinion on what you think are the latest trends in the quilting world. I would love to hear what the quilters on this board have to say!

I think wool, needle punch and rug hooking seem to be having a revival. And maybe even English Paper Piecing. What do you think?

I noticed the following "trends" in Paducah ....

Different approaches to binding like cord work, lace, or heavy drapery trim. At least 4 of the big winners had something other than a traditional binding.

3D effects. Lots of folded fabric to make flowers, hanging fabric for things like table cloths, rouched flowers, and couching.

A lot of raw edge applique. Some was covered in tulle, but not all (and I'm still curious why they used tulle).

Just Sue, how about wool projects?

I have been noticing many quilts with added "touches". It doesn't seem to be just quilting now. I see embelishments, folded fabric, heavy threaded areas, paint, cording and piping. These techniques are interesting and great for art but probably don't do much for bed quilts.

I did notice quite a few that appeared to be wool but without touching one can't be positive. However, most of those that I noticed were in vendor booths, not necessarily show quilts.

There were also quite a few vendors selling various wool products.

Thanks Sue!

I am lucky enough to live just 6 miles from Bigfork Bay Cotton Company - nice QS, very nice people running the store. I sort of felt we locals had a corner on the BBCC market - didn't realize there were so many from far away who also appreciate them.
I'll be watching this thread to see what quilting trends others are finding interesting & challenging.
