i have questions regarding QuiltPro. they gave me vague answers and told me to buy it and return it if i'm not satisfied. that sounds very wrong.
so.... does anyone have it and make good use of it? or have it and feel it doesn't live up to expectations? if instructions say to cut squares 5.5" and cut them diagonally 2x, then sew them to half squares 2.5" that are cut 1x diagonally, etc to make a quilt 60 x 75, and i want to make a quilt 98 x 98, will QuiltPro make those changes for me without me doing the math? after all, if i do the match, who needs them? now, i graph it all out. there must be another way. EQ is not for Mac. |
I have had quilt pro for years and use it mainly for sizing quilts and estimate of yardage. If you lay out the finished block in the block section, it will give you all the cutting patterns. Just print them out. Great this way.

I'd just use the free Quilters Tool Box on the Thousand of Bolts website. It gives you the yardage for any quilt you design.

so.... does anyone have it and make good use of it? or have it and feel it doesn't live up to expectations? I have Quilt Pro and have had it for many years. When I was actively designing patterns for publication, that's what I used. I still use it to this day even though I'm not designing patterns to sell any longer. I love this program. I will have to say, though, that on the newest version, Quilt Pro 6, they made a lot of changes and made it work more like EQ. I have versions 4 - 6, and I still stick to version 4 because I like it better. But, if you have never used it, then you might like 6 better, because you wouldn't have anything to compare it to. If you could get 4 or 5, perhaps on ebay, either of those would work well also. I have found that versions 4 - 5 have an easier learning curve than I think 6 has, but like I said, if you aren't used to any of them, then you might want to start with 6. The program will do everything from letting you draw your own block and create your own design, to adding your fabrics that you plan to use in the quilt. And yes, if you have a block or a quilt that you want to enlarge, it will give you any size you want, and will also let you print out fabric requirements, rotary cutting measurements, and paper piecing - just about anything you want. The company is great. I have found them most helpful and would recommend this program if you are wanting to invest in one. Have a good one! Marcia |
that is very happy news and thank you. it sounds like it will do everything i want it to do and more. only the 5 works with mac, but it sounds like that would be enough for what i need.
i really just need math help. the investment isn't that great that i feel i need to have the latest and the greatest. everything is lightyears behind for mac and i live with it. EQ doesn't even admit there is a mac. as long as there's a tech person, that's PERSON, if any glitches occur, then i think i'll go ahead with it. i find it interesting that so few people have it even though EQ is more $$$$. that always made me a little leery of it. but i've been told by an impeccable source that this is EQ's main competitor, so how bad can it be? and what choice do i have with mac? have you started packing yet? |

I do think you will like this program and they do have a great tech person that is very patient. Nope, no packing yet, but if I could find a good place to go to get out of this heat, I would pack in a hurry. Marcia |

Mac? Mac who? LOL Actually there are products you can run on the Mac that will support EQ, but I understand they can be expensive. Maybe you should get a cheap PC and just use it for quilting. Sound good?
I used to go to Iceland for business. I really enjoyed it, but the weather is not always nice. And it changes every 10 minutes. We've had a cool summer here (so far). |

I used to go to Iceland for business. I really enjoyed it, but the weather is not always nice. And it changes every 10 minutes. We've had a cool summer here (so far). to reiterate: if i want to make a very complex block that has many fractional parts, in a quilt that totals 72 x 45 with borders and sashings out of 4" blocks, but i want mine to have 7.5" blocks, no border, no sashing that totals 98 x 98 or 100 x 100 can QP do it? (finished measures) will it have a conniption? will it tell me if it can't? can it change it to pp? will it give me rotary cutting directions? templates? which? pp patterns? sewing instructions? will i have a conniption? what the heck can it do? the QP people won't tell me unless i buy it and i won't buy it unless they tell me. catch 22. (does QP stand for Quilt Police?) they told me i can return it for a full refund within 30 days. i haven't even gotten it and they have me returning it. if they tell me what it does, we can all save ourselves a lot of trouble.how does it 'see' the block? do i scan the image? or feed the info? or draw it onto a grid? why is it a secret? i did think of getting another computer, but the place would be the basement. they don't do well there. too damp in the summer months. and frankly, too removed from the rest of the house. you're right. getting support ware would be more expensive than the QP, which is only $100. :hunf: |
Sorry, I've never seen QP so have no idea what it does. However I hear of it only occasionally, whereas I hear about EQ all the time (and I use it all the time). I'll ask my friends to see if anyone uses QP.

entire country. First time I've ever seen that. I know people are really suffering in places where they don't usually have this heat. I guess we are somewhat used to it, but I still hate it. For the last 2 months it has been 100 plus, not one drop of rain, and at midnight it is still around 100. We get down to the low 80's at night, so no relief at all. :( |

Barbara, I have Quilt Pro. I'm not that good at it but I think if you start off with a quilt block of the size you want you can adjust the size of the quilt by how many blocks you want across and down, So if you make a block and tell the program it is 10" and want to enlarge the whole quilt to king size, you can go back and make the block larger. Hope this helps. n BY the way you can design your own block with the program too.
