Ran into a lady at the local JoAnn's who, in the course of conversation, said she was looking for fabric for a simple quilt because her church was making them for the homeless. For those of you who have this in mind may I offer a thought. Keep in mind that the homeless carry everything they own with them where ever they go each day which includes to bathrooms, walks, etc. so everything needs to be portable and serve, perhaps, multiple functions in their lives. It might be a good idea to add roll up ties to these quilts and straps so they can function similar to a back pack. You might also, have pockets on one side of the quilt for them to stow things in (bar of soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) that can be rolled up during the day inside the quilt. Just a thought.....

I would use this pattern:

It makes it's own carrying roll.

This is very interesting. We have been thinking of doing something at the shop I sew at and there are some things I hadn't thought about. Thanks
