Quilts for kids batting

I am getting ready to make my first Quilts for Kids quilt. What a wonderful organization! Just wondering what batting you all would suggest for this. Would polyester work? Also, not to sound petty or selfish, is the shipping, etc. tax deductible as a donation?

Not sure if the shipping is deductible. I make charity quilts for Foster children and I like using Hobbs 80/20 batting.

Be sure to keep your receipts. I usually attach a small piece of the fabric I bought to the receipt using a glue stick and keep a digital picture of the quilt in case there is any questions.

I used Warm and Natural batting in the ones I made.

I think it might be interesting to save the receipts. Then you can see if the actual outlay exceeds the "standard deduction" on one's taxes.

I use polyester for many charity kids quilts because it handles lots of washing/drying well. If it is an IRS approved charity I think all your expenses will be deductible so save all receipts.

I have used only Warm and Natural batting in mine. From the Quilts for Kids FAQ:----------------------------------------------------------What type of batting should I use? Please use LOW LOFT 1/8 to 1/4 inch batting. Cotton or poly or a combination of the two is acceptable.-----------------------------------------------------------I never worried about the cost of the item or the shipping amount since I have only done 4 or 5 of these. It might be worthwhile if you make a lot of them.Pam

I use polyester batting from Joanne's. Holds up fairly well.

Here's a quote from the Quilts for Kids FAQ page.

"What type of batting should I use?

I've always used W&N in mine as well. Never had any issues/complaints. I'm fortunate in that they are just across the river from me and I can drop mine - no shipping. Agree, also, that it's a great organization.

regarding shipping....You might be able to find a local Quilts for Kids chapter....no shipping. Mine has monthly sewing workshops, too

I've always used Dream Green poly batting in QFK quilts. I also saved my receipts and claimed shipping on my taxes.
