Has anyone joined a "Quilts for Kids" chapter? There is only ONE in Indiana, and I e-mailed them and haven't heard back. I want to get involved in making quilts for local hospitals for kids...

Just try contacting your local hospitals, let them know what you are wanting to do.

I agree just contact a hospital in your area and ask if they take these types of donations, most hospitals do, exp. Nic units. sometimes a blanket is the only thing a parent takes home from the hospital. (ask me I know)

although they do have GREAT information about how to make the blankets on their website!

i would contact the united way, since they associate themselves with them, and make sure it's legit. unfortunately, not all"charities" are charitable.
definitely don't make any others for them until you're sure of who they are.

you don't need to make quilts through a group, of course. many hospitals will happily and personally accept them and you're sure they get where they're supposed to go.

Is there a Project Linus chapter in your area? You could make quilts for them also.

Ronald McDonald House also accepts quilts for kids.

Just an update - still haven't heard anything from this non-profit. I'm kinda disappointed. I'll just take everyone's advice and talk to the hospitals/charities myself.

You have to have a local Project Linus in your area. Also if there is a local womans crisis center or right to life they DEFINATLY need baby quilts. You will be making a quilt for a good cause to whoever you donate it to and that is a wonderful gift of self sacrafice.

I used to quilt for the charity you are talking about. Go on there website and they will give you info. I used to work with Linda Ayre the founder and would mail my quilts to Pennsylvania. She gets fabric from the manufactures that they are going to discard. She will mail you fabric and when you finish the quilts you mail them back. I did it for about 2 years. You have to use your own batting and shipping back to her. It was getting quite expensive. I did enjoy it but gave it up because it was getting to be too much. Hope this will help you. Joyce
