Or use them for making up strip sets for a double irish chain. Both are nice quilts.. tim in san jose |
thank you I will look for those patterns. Quilter 1234

Also, look into Strips 'n Curves by Louisa L. Smith. It's all about strip piecing. You'll need to get some larger pieces to go with your strips, but it's way cool!

but.. I finished a 60x60 quilt in three days over New Years, borrowing a sewing machine while on vacation. I need to sew a binding on my daughters double irish chain queen size). I need to finish the the border (sewing together some HSTs) for my Homeward Bound quilt (queen size). Need to layer and quilt my original Yellow Brick Road that has been sitting around for 6 or 7 months. Working on a quilt for my younger daughter. (Full size) Starting a block a week program for Paper Pieced Stars (probably queen). About three other quilts in various stages of planning. Materials bought for most of them. One, a Southwest Medallion quilt will be my big project for 2008. Working 60 hours a week for the next month or so (tying up a major project) etc. etc. Not bad for 2007. And you? tim in san jose |

are they 2" or 2 1/2"? here's the irish chain pattern/instructions. if you want to spend some $$ you could also look for the book 'still strippin' after all these years' (eleanor burns?) i've heard of it, but not looked through it yet. |

Time to get back to work (tomorrow). I wonder if my desk is still there. tim in san jose |
Debbie Caffrey has a few books for quilting from strips - "Open a Can of Worms" and "Noodle Soup" are two of hers.

Hi I have been in a strip club usibg 2 1/2 inch srtips for the past year and if you go to bighornquilts.com she posts free patterns on the 2 1/2 inch strips but would also work great on the 2 inch strips

I made my bargello quilt using two inch strips. It was one of my favorite projects.

these are foundation pieced out of every imaginable scrap i had around the house, even some old curtains. and the pineapple quilt is paper pieced.
this one is paper pieced foundation pieced i believe it's called a string quilt - also foundation pieced. |
Are the strips different colors? If so, I did a quilt (don't remember the name of it) where you sew (3) different colors together in long strips using the 1/4 " seam..Make lots of these..
After these are joined measure the strip from top to bottom which should be at 4" (if my math is right) Whatever that measurement is now cut the long strip into the same length so the pieces are *square* now join one horizitonal square to another square that you place *vertical* so each square is running the opposite direction..I made this one out of flannel for my B.I.L and it is very pretty and interesting...Hope this is one idea that you can use ..Suzanne from Mich |
I use a flip and sew method using strips to make quilts. Most are baby quilts but they can be any size. Barbara Randle's book "Crazy Quilting with Attitude" is the book I use.
Good luck with your project! |
Cathe, I check out your blogs and the Guild. I realy like the heart quilts. I see you start with a nine patch and take it from there. I have never seen that heart design before. I also had to laugh at your spin on scrap choices. Good laugh.

There are lots of patterns that take strips. Here are two that I did. Anxious to see what you come up with! Post pictures.
2 Doods Similar to one that I made to keep. Mine has random strips. This one has controlled strips. Amish pattern-Sunshine and Shadows. This is one that I made for my Mom. This is before it was quilted. The pattern-Breakfast in Bed. |
