Quilts of Valor - questions
 

I just learned about Quilts of Valor yesterday and am interested in making a few quilts to donate. Has anyone ever done this before? Is the process fairly easy? Do you have to send the quilt to be longarmed, or can you quilt it yourself? The website is a little vague on how you sign up and who you send quilts to and so on. If anyone has done this, could you shed some light on the process for me. I've got a lot of former students in the armed forces and I would like to be able to support any military person. it's my belief and this page probably confirms it http://www.qovf.org/content/making-a-qov.html that you donate through a local coordinator. unfortunately, the link there has no content. so my next best suggestion is to use the Contact Us info in the top right. i used to make QOV's through my guild... i don't know how they got to the coordinator from there. i, for one, appreciate that you want to participate in this great effort.

If you google Wounded Warrior Quilts you will see many locations that are making and donating quilts for this purpose. If there are none near you, consider contributing through some of the guilds/groups you find here - after emailing them for their standards. Or you can do so through your local American Legion.

This is SUCH a rewarding and fulfilling endeavor, you will be blessed by it. I personally have made it my mission to reach out to all the local military personnel I hear about in our local news, keeping it hometown and personal. This allows me to actually see the person the quilt is given to in many cases.

Thank you for the links. I will look into each of them and see what meets my needs. I want to make the quilts from start to finish and donate them to a group who will get them to a military person who needs it. We don't have any guilds in our area, so I have to be able to send it to someone who will get it where it needs to go. Thank you again for these links!

My guild thought of doing QOV but when we got the instructions we decided against it. There was a strict size requirement, a presentation case was needed, and a note to be sent with it. I do believe there was more but forget what all it was.

Now we do quilts for our local veterans' homes ... esp one of the homes for homeless women vets.
Their requirements are much more liberal!

Like Jan in Va noted, there are many ways/places to donate quilts to our vets.

Join the QOV Facebook page and you'll get more help than then law should allow. I've just finished my 1st top and need to get the backing done and cut the batting.. Then I'll ask for a longarm quilter to be assigned. UNLESS I can find someone to donate the quilting.. Check out their Facebook page, which I've posted for you.
