All of the lint is why I've never made one. They could create alot of problems. I have lots of flannel and think eventually i will just make lap quilts or one person covers and tied them.

I wonder if you put water soluble interfacing on the top and bottom, if that would help keep the lint down while you're sewing....

Finished the quilt this weekend. That sucker has got to be the heaviest throw I've ever made. It has to be a good 50 pounds. Thankfully, I have a lovely, large vintage Singer that was able to work through it, though I'm sure she called me a couple of names in the process! Now to snip and take to the laundromat. So glad I can finish it for the family before Thanksgiving. I matched my seams like I would on any other quilt, but I'm unsure I should have done that. I was given all the flannel squares and batting to make a smaller, hopefully, simpler rag quilt and I'm going to look more at those directions. I think I did something wrong somewhere, but I'm just making the fringe now and will be happy to give it to the recipient! This is not one of those quilts I would be happy to keep. That doesn't really happen very often.
I might make another rag quilt someday, but it won't have denim in it. I'll probably make another denim quilt some day, but it won't be a rag quilt. |

Anyway, I didn't use fleece, I used lumberjack looking flannel plaids. I was having massive problems with the flannel stretching everywhere, so I went ahead and stitched an X in each square. I'm about to start stitching them all together into rows. Anyway, I am using a jeans needle along with denim thread. Now I don't know if it's the jeans, the thread or the flannel, but I have MASSIVE lint build up around the walking foot, down inside the needle plate, surrounding the drop in bobbin area. It's just everywhere. Is there anything I can do to reduce the build up? Perhaps I should switch thread manufacturers? I know people have issues with C&C, but I use it regularly and have had no problems with it until using the denim thread. Any suggestions? I'm completely taking everything apart every bobbin change, brushing it all out wiping it all down and starting it again. It has so much build up, that I probably should stop mid-bobbin and clean it out, but that's a real pain. TIA! the problem I ran into was when I washed it it plugged my washing machine, hubby had to take it apart and unplug the hoses and drain, I had to wring out the quilt and hang it over the shower rod to let it drip in the tub. then drying I clean the lint every ten minutes, but my quilt was a beauty and a hit.:p P.S. I used flannel and denim.! |
I have always planned a trip to the laundromat to avoid that very problem! I had to take the area around the feed dogs out and clean it out thoroughly at every bobbin change. Appliance vaccuum might just be on my Christmas list!
