rag quilt

I hope im not repeating a question, as I have seen several posts on rag quilts, but im trying to use up my stash and wondering if I can inter mingle cotton squares and flannel as I ran out of my flannel pieces
but have a lot of cotton, wondering if like one cotton then one flannel square would work, knowing that cotton and flannel wash. differently. thank you!

I have made many rag quilts using both regular cottons and flannels. Batiks do not fray so well, but most of the others do nicely. I make my seams a bit narrower and clip closer together. What are you doing on the back? I alternated cotton top, flannel back, flannel top, cotton back and used cotton batting--came out great

The cotton won't unravel as nicely or as thick as flannel does.

they should work well together as long as both are washed and dried already. I made one with corduroy and cotton squares.

I love making rag quilts. I have mixed every type of fabric in them. Don't spend much time fretting over what will rag. All bunch up eventually.

Flannel is a finish, not a fabric content. Your flannel is probably cotton or maybe cotton/poly. That said, I'm doing a couple "I spy" baby quilts and have some flannel in each.

I don't see why not...denim frays interestingly - sides will be white fringe and top & bottom will be blue! I think just denim would seem more "stringy" than raggy, but if you alternate with flannel I think that'd probably turn out ok.

Maybe sew a 4-patch of denim & flannel together, clip the seams and toss them in the wash a couple times to see if you like the effect, before you do a whole quilt.

I mixed old denim jeans cut into squares and flannel squares and they came out great and ragged beautifully together.

I've made many rag quilts. My favorite combination is denim and flannel, but I've also done all flannel, as well as flannel and cotton quilting fabric. The latter doesn't fray quite as well, but still works fine.
