I am very new to quilting and have read "rag quilt" here several times. Can someone please tell me what this is and what it looks like.

Is is a quilt that has the edges showing and you clip them to make it look raggy . Can be made using flannel, cotton, denim for the best raveling

This is the site I used to make my first rag quilt. It's a great tutorial and you can print it out.
http://www.lovetosew.com/ragquilt.htm I used flannel in the middle of my two squares vs. batting, I cut my squares 5" and cut the inside flannel 2" shorter, or 3", that way I had less bulk to trim on the seams but it still fringed nicely. Some people don't even put in a center piece. I'm going to do my next rag quilt using 7" squares. |
Sometimes they are also called fray-edge quilts...If you go to the search function here and type in the key words you will get a list of posts that match. There have been some beauties posted.

They are quick and easy.
