have made rag quilts before but have a question about mixing fabrics. i'm at a loss can't find chocolate colored flannel to use as the back square. top fabric and middle are flannel do you think it would be okay to use a cotton on the back ? would they all shrink the same ? thanks

Flannel will shrink more than cotton.

I just got home from Joann's and mine had tons of chocolate flannel.

Okay Maggie, which one did you go to? Jeanne and I were at the 71st & Memorial one today. I'm going to the 41st & Yale one tomorrow to pick up my roll of batting I ordered.

You do know the 71st & Memorial Joann's is closing and opening a bigger store at 71st & 169. I think it is opening in February but I'm not certain. Most anything would be an improvement!

I've used cotton as a top for a rag quilt with two other flannel layers. I prewashed all fabrics and was pleased with the results!
