How many times do you wash a rag quilt before giving it... and does the rag quilt look nicer the more you wash it???

I only wash mine once and supposedly, every time you wash a rag quilt, it frays a tiny bit more and becomes softer.

I wash mine only once before giving, and this gives it a good "ragged" start.

I never wash them ahead of time , but do give very detailed directions on the care of the quilt  I usually tell them to take it to the laundromat for the first few times

I wash mine twice, I like to see it raggy before giving it away

I wash it once, but I warn them about the extra lint they will get when they wash it again.

I wash once befor giving.
have one that I made for hubby last year has been washed numerous times and yes it gets better with washing!
nice and cuddly!

I wash and dry mine twice - once at the laundromat so that the first round of lint doesn't clog my machine and the second time at home. I do see a difference in the ragging between the first and second washes.

For the second quilt, I added a few towels to the wash and I think the rags were a little softer/fuzzier than on the first quilt. Plus it reduced my stack of towels to wash.

Cheers, K
