Can you use regular cotton fabrics when making a rag quilt?

I use the rag die for the Go and cotton fabric. The edges are cut perfectly all around the square 1/4" wide, 1" long. The cotton ravels great. Homespun is the best if you are cutting by hand. It really ravels up.

for thickness i put batting in the squares and sew an x across it though. its a great way to use up batting scraps.

I regularly do what Carla does. I cut fabric 1" larger than batting, sandwich, chain sew "x" through each block then seam with 1/2" seams. It is soft, cuddly and rags beautifully. Oh, yeah, I sew my seams with a zigzag.

"Oh, yeah, I sew my seams with a zigzag."

Why do you sew your seams with a zigzag?
