Rag quilts

Has anyone made a large rag quilt? If so, do you take it to the laundromat , and do you use the large front loader machine? Does it fluff well?

I took mine to the laundromat and used the lg washing machine and dryer.

I use the laundromat for rag quilts, since I'm on a septic system.

I use the extra large washer there for big bulky items for the rag quilt. It has plenty of room to rag. The dryer filter will get clogged fast. I wash and dry the quilt at home from then on.

I wash mine in a top loader. seems to do fine. dryer too. cotton and corduroy squares.

I have taken mine to the laundromat in a large machine. Washed it twice and dried twice. We had a septic tank and didn't want to have any clogs.

I took mine to the laundry mat because it is too big for my home machine-plus I had 2 more to wash and I could put all of them in the large front loader machine at the same time. I gave them “a quarter” dry to fluff them and brought them home to hang on the line to dry......yes, I still have a clothes line..................not very common in my area any more....I use it all the time (to the envy of my neighbor). :-)

I miss my clothes line!! don't have one here.

If you decide to use a commercial machine at the laundromat, check it out carefully first. Make sure it doesn't have any left over auto grease in it. Or dye. Or anything else in it that you don't want on your quilt. A lesson learned the hard way.
Just sayin...
