Is flannel the only fabric that rag quilts are made with?

kso 01-24-2011 06:53 AM

No, I made mine with denim foundation squares that I strip quilted cotton scraps onto.

I've used homespuns before :)

Fleece scraps. They don't really rag, though--you fringe each block.

Denim, corduroy, flannel, homespuns, even muslin. Anything that will unravel.

I made one using cotton.

How did it turn out. I have quite a bit of cotton I would like to use up.

I have seen them using a lot of diff fabrics. As long as it ravels it will bloom. Fleece would be a different look, it will curl.

i made one with corduroy sqs and cotton sqs. worked fine.

I make mine with flannel and have been adding minkie and chenille. The later don't rag real well but they add texture on the baby quilts. I also only use a half in seam allowance and put binding on the edges instead of snipping the edges. I think it gives the quilt a more finished look.

Thanks everyone! I am going to make one soon.
