Just wondering for those of you who have done some rag quilts, what kind of scissors did you use or did you buy some special ones and was it worth it?

Special ones that are made for clipping seams. They are about $15, but worth it if you are going to make many.

The spring loaded clippers are really a great hand saver when it comes to all of that clipping :D:D:D

When I first started doing rag quilts I used regular cutting scissors and I must say it was painful to the hands. Then I invested in a pair of scissors that are made for rag quilting and what a relief!! I will tell you it was worth the investment (I used my 40% coupon at Joanns) I wished I would had done it sooner. Mine are also fiskars.

I have the rag scissor also and they are well worth the price. If you aren't sure you'll make another maybe you could borrow someones to use. If you were close I'd let you use mine.

let me tell you from experience.....buy the scissors! I still have a scar on my thumb where the skin was rubbed raw from clipping the seams with regular scissors.

By all means, buy the special springy scissors to cut your raggy quilts! Your hands will thank you! And you will have enjoyed making the raggy quilt and will want to make more. I know that sometimes we all try to 'make do' with what we already have but this really is a case of needing the best/proper equipment to do the job.

I have rag quilt scissors made by Heritage Cutlery and got them from J Hittle wholesale. They are so wonderful! They are more expensive than Fiskars but cut a lot easier.

I've made so many raggeds (I think 14) and I guess I've never seen these scissors you speak of. I will have to investigate! Regular ones don't bother me much though.

I have made over a dozen rag quilts with them and my hands never hurt. I have arthritis in my hands and also had carpel tunnel surgery done on both hands. These scissors are just awesome!

Make one rag quilt using regular scissors and then buy a pair these where ever you find the best price. You won't appreciate them unless you use regular scissors first.

I have tried all kinds, but the ones I like best are Fons and porters red handlLe rag quilt scissors. The spring ones I wore out.

i got a pair of Fiscars scissors that have a spring and short blades. they are a hand saver!!
