Does anybody out there have a pattern for a six strip rail fence, need help as to how big block would be if I used 6 strips and how wide on the strips should I go. I am not a seasoned quilter.

The size strips would depend on the finished size you want your block.

Does not really matter, I just need to know how wide strips should be and then what size square would I make? I believe it takes four squares to make one complete block.

a 6 inch block:
cut the strips 1 1/2" X 6 1/2" 4 would make a 12 1/2" unfinished size block

a 9 inch block:
2" X 9 1/2" 4 would make a 18 1/2" size block

Do you need one smaller than this?

Thanks, I will try that.

I think you need an odd number rather than an even number of strips. At least take a look at this one and it will give you some ideas.

I plan to work on one real soon.

This rail fence is one of my first quilts. There are 6 fabrics, each cut at 1.5" x 6.5". Each block (consisting of 6 strips sewn together) measures 6.5 inches unfinished. It's a pretty small lap quilt. If I were making another, I would make it bigger.
