Rainbow pattern?
 

We want to make a rag quilt with a rainbow design. Any pattern ideas? We are all beginners, that means it needs to be pretty simple.

What if you start out with red for the center blocks, go to orange for the blocks surrounding the red, yellow surrounding the orange, then green and so forth? Would that work?

there are a number of ways to achieve a rainbow of colors & raggys tend to be pretty easy quilts- if you don't want to do it the way raggiemom suggested another way would be to choose how many fabrics/colors you are using for your 'rainbow'---say 9 as an example--
cut your squares, depending on size- and finished size wanted---an example would be a 9 x 11 layout==
you would cut 11 squares of each color- for the top- cut squares & batting squares-
number your colors 1-9
start layout with them in order- 1 thru 9
second row layout 2-9+1
third row layout 3-9 + 1-2
ect. you wind up with the colors in diagonal rows down across the quilt.

or- just cut your squares- make your sandwiches & play around on the floor (or on a bed) moving them around until you like what you see.

I was thinking at first that you meant an actual rainbow, then realized that Raggiemom might have been right, so I drew up a couple for you. What I have done however, is to use the flannel scraps I had on hand, make of stack of blocks, then toss them onto a table and rearrange until I liked the results. Then I stack a row, sew it together, then stack the next row, etc.

Although this isn't a rag quilt, it is made of flannel. It's all half square triangles, so that's pretty simple.

Thanks to all you creative and generous quilters! Now that we have several pattern choices we ill have to choose! Thank you again.

I saw years ago a log cabin made like a rainbow. Instead of lights and darks it was each block a different color. Don't know if you could do a rag quilt out of it but an idea!
