Getting ready to sew blocks into rows. I have some blocks that have a dark green rectangle that really pops out from all of the other blocks. It's a 9blockx9 quilt. I'm trying to evenly distribute them between the 81 blocks. will this look better than letting some fall closer together? Can a qulit top look too random?

I don't think there is such a thing as "too random" but, if you want to make it easy, why not place them around the edges of the quilt...so they're on the drop and not as noticable...or line them up across the pillow area

You could line them so they make a pattern, random on purpose. Make a V pattern on the quild or some such thing.

It sounds like your quilt might be a scrap type quilt. In that case I would purposely place any colors that pop from the rest of the quilt where I felt they didn't form a pattern or march around the edges or congragate together in a group on the quilt. When you do your layout on your design wall, play around with different ways to distibute them that looks pleasing, but natural to you. Fabrics that are different from the rest of those in the quilt can work in our favor. With careful placement, they cause the eye to wander around the quilt as it's drawn to that unique element. :-D

That's what a design wall - or floor - is for. To try out different arrangements before you sew the blocks together. That and realizing sometimes you just can't win. You want one color scattered about the quilt top and then another color is grouped together.
